Our work pays particular attention to climate disinformation in the context of new (e.g. social media) and emerging technologies (e.g. generative AI), and draws on a range of methods, including computational and other emerging approaches to study climate disinformation and obstruction.
Identifying and understanding climate disinformation and obstruction
We conduct research that extends to understanding:
- Key messages and narratives of climate obstruction (content, framing, audiences)
- Channels and information environments (social media platforms, news media, and cross-platform dynamics)
- Actors behind climate obstruction (corporate, political, and advocacy organizations; influencer roles and coordination)
- Consequences of climate obstruction (public understanding, polarization, trust, and policy impacts)
Tools and responses
We also seek to advance work on:
- Tools and methods for detection and analysis (computational methods, network analysis, data challenges)
- Response and counter-strategies (communication interventions, platform governance, policy design)
